| Hardware problems |
|---|
| 06.06.2004 Sunday 00:25 | author: Averne |
Because of the problems with the LiveCD server, we kindly ask for help with the server's hardware. We already have most of it, that is a hard disk drive, case and power supply. However, we are still in the need of a mainboard with CPU faster than 1 GHz for the server to run smoothly. It will be replaced to a bigger and faster connection, for which we are ready to pay ourselves. The official LiveCD site will be hosted there, along with the download section and the long planned message-board. Again, we ask for donations to run our project.

This is beta version of PLD LiveCD 1.0 with HDD installer included (/root/installer).
I can't guarantee, that it will work or at least you won't lose any data. It works for me.
Please test it, send bugreports. Version 1.0 coming soon.

| Installer and PLD LiveCD 1.0 |

The installer is almost ready. It was written mainly by adasi. Sorry it took so long, but I had problems with one
guy who promised me to do it a long time ago and he failed. Version 1.0 of LiveCD will be available soon.
There are some minor things unfinished by now, but I'm working on them.

| 0.95 is out |
|---|
| 11.05.2004 Tuesday 16:40 | author: Havner |
|
Yesterday night I've released 0.95. The main difference between 0.94 is newer kernel (2.6.6).
Nforce2, and intel8{6,7}5 now works. I've also upgraded pci ids for sound cards and added
two more fluxbox styles in pretty profile. In general, if 0.94 works for you, you don't
need to download this version. It's a bugfix release for nforce2 and some intel chips owners.

| Future plans, offtopic and this damned nforce2 |
|---|
| 9.05.2004 Sunday 23:40 | author: Havner |
Future plans:
- Migration to X11.org. I'm testing their release of X, and it looks stable. Besides it's just a fork of
XFree86-4.4-rc2, just before XFree changed their license to GPL incompatible.
- OpenOffice with KDE native framework. It looks and works much better.
- Going on the wave together with nvidia give FireGL for radeon owners.
- Figure out some way to boot LiveCD with the help of a floppy. Unfortunately syslinux can't be used.
I won't fit kernel image with initrd on a single floppy. Maybe loadlin?
- Newer 2.6 kernel. This used on livecd (2.6.5) doesn't work on...
And here comes this damned nforce2. I've just got informations, that there are big problems with this
chip on 2.6.5. If you own one I can't guarantee, that livecd will work.
And a little bit offtopic:
I've managed to make a nice aqua look on PLD. You can see it here:
http://livecd.pld-linux.org/screens
This is baghira style taken from http://kde-look.org. Soon it will available in PLD.

| English site |

Ok, the English site has been launched. For now only "news", "packages list" and "download" sections
are translated, but this should be enough to see what's going on in PLD Live CD. Other sections will
be successively translated.

| PLD Live CD 0.94 |
|---|
| 9.05.2004 Sunday 16:00 | author: Havner |
I still don't have enough time to translate this site into English. There is a chance
that today basic English site will be launched.
Release 0.94 is mainly bugfix (some packages and few scripts mistakes fixed), but
there are some new features:
- As usuall new packages (KDE 3.2.2, GNOME 2.6.1 and many more - see "packages list" link)
- Improved autodetection (more pci idsi for netcards, ide and scsi controllers, better pcmcia controllers detection)
- KDE starts by default in GDM from now on (not GNOME, as was before)
- Added example pretty profile. It can be selected in isolinux (F2 as always is your friend).
It reconfigures the look of KDE and fluxbox. It's just a proposition.
- I removed w32codecs (license problems)
- Untypical resolutions for laptops (I don't know if they are correct, they were sent to me by laptops users)
Not all mirrors are synced. I suggest using ICM for now.
This version of PLD LiveCD will be published in June's edition of Linux+.
Probably it will be also published in European edition of this magazine soon.
